CONNECTING RESEARCH AND POLICY FOR BETTER LAND MANAGEMENT

Conservation Auctions: A Promising Policy Tool?

A Special Forum

Market-based instruments are commonly used to support conservation in Australia. Dr. Patrick O’Connor is an international expert in the use of reverse auctions for conservation purposes. He has implemented 16 reverse auctions in Australia, and has been contracted to undertake a review of the Australian Bushtender program –– one of the world’s best-known market based approaches to conservation.

Join Dr. O’Connor at this special public event to learn about the use of market based instruments for conservation. University of Alberta researcher Dr. Peter Boxall will also explain how reverse auctions are currently being employed in southern Alberta, to promote wetland restoration. A panel discussion will follow, moderated by Dr. Shari Clare, to discuss the feasibility of conservation auctions in Alberta.

This event is related to the ALI-funded Alberta's Living Laboratory Wetlands Project.
